Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve which is pressure sensitive. Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in Israel. About 3% of the population suffer from glaucoma, and half of the cases are undiagnosed. The damage to the optic nerve caused by the pressure is irreversible, therefore it is crucial to diagnose the disease early. Dr. Kaplan is one of the leading opthalmelogists in early diagnosis of glaucoma. Treatment for glaucoma includes medications (usually eyedrops), laser therapy (see the new technology SLT), and surgery. There is a wide range of possible incisional surgery, Dr Kaplan has an extensive experience both in Trabeculectomy, and in glaucoma drainage implantation which are the most common techniques used when surgery becomes necessary.
